Gwindor And Finduilas: Let No Grief Lie Between Us

    Then the heart of Finduilas was turned from Gwindor and against her will her love was given to Túrin; but Túrin did not perceive what had befallen.     Gwindor and Finduilas are my favorite couple of the Silmarillion but I always find them such a challenge to draw! I can tell you I agonized over this one... still not completely satisfied with the result.


Gwindor was engaged to be married to Finduilas, the daughter of Orodreth, who was the king of Nargothrond. But Gwindor marched under Fingon as part of the Union of Maedhros and was captured and tormented by Morgoth for fourteen years before escaping into the woods, where he met Túrin and Beleg. He eventually journeyed back to Nargothrond with Túrin but his strength and beauty were lost in his years of captivity.

    Finduilas eventually fell in love with Túrin, and Gwindor accepted this without jealousy. Gwindor foretold that if Finduilas was the only thing standing between Túrin and his doom, and with his dying breath told Túrin to save her. But Túrin was too late, and so both she and Gwindor died around the time Nargothrond fell.
